Behold The Savior - Day 10

Day 10 of Advent! Thank you for joining us. “The birth of Christ is the dawn of hope for a lost world.” – J.C. Ryle ❄️ 🕯️ 🌲

Today’s Devotional: Hope Announced

Wednesday, December 10

“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,

and you shall call his name Jesus.

He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.

And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David,

and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever,

and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

Luke 1:31–33

Mary was just a poor, teenage girl. Could she possibly understand the weight of the words that Gabriel spoke? A Kingdom that cannot end. A King who cannot be defeated. All of this would be carried in her womb, through the power of the Holy Spirit. When God wants to do something, He will do it. He doesn’t need a princess, He just needs a peasant girl. God has kept His promise and has sent His Son. The true King has come.

1 Corinthians 15:25 says, “25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.” This Christmas, remember that Christ is King. One day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. This is what Jesus is accomplishing through the Great Commission. He is extending His rule and reign. On the cross, Jesus was given all power and all authority. He conquered the grave and is now conquering hearts and minds and is conquering the nations. This is the hope we need today.

When you hear a Christmas song or watch a Christmas movie this year, let it remind you that the King has come. Jesus was born so that He could die. He was raised to life so that He could rule and reign. The shepherds and wise men didn’t bow down to Jesus because he was a cute baby. They bowed down, because even as a baby, they knew He was the King of kings. The Christmas story is not good news because it happened 2,000 years ago, but because Jesus is King today. He was born so that he could die for your sins and rule and reign in your life.

Reflection:

• What part of the angel’s announcement gives you the most hope today?

• What area of our life do you need to submit to Jesus? Is it your finances? Your marriage? Your children’s future?

Prayer:

Thank You for sending Jesus, the promised King. Strengthen my hope in You today. Help me to trust in Your unchanging Word and rest in the reign of Christ. Let Your Kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Amen.
