Behold The Savior - Day 13

Day 13 of Advent! Today we’re wrapping up Week 2 – The Hope of Christ.

Today’s Devotional: Hope for the Humble
Saturday, December 13

“He has brought down the mighty from their thrones
and exalted those of humble estate;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.”
Luke 1:52-53

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
James 4:6

In this beautiful prayer, Mary exalts Christ and humbles herself. This is what we are all called to do. Some of Jesus’ disciples wanted to sit at the right hand of God. They thought the best way to advance in the Kingdom of God was to ask for a promotion. But Jesus says the way to exalt ourselves is to humble ourselves. It’s totally upside down! Jesus did this by coming as a baby. Matthew 23:12 says, “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

Because Jesus came humbly, He has been highly exalted. HIS name is now above EVERY OTHER NAME. There are a lot of people and celebrities trying to elevate their name. They are constantly trying to gain influence and promote their brand. Jesus is above any other man, celebrity or false god. Jesus was not just a nice man who had good things to say. He is King of kings and Lord of lords.

Like Mary, let’s exalt Christ today. There is no name in Heaven or Hell that carries the weight and power of the name of Jesus. No other general, emperor, president has changed mankind like Jesus Christ. He stands alone in the Universe. To him be all the glory and honor forever!

We can have a personal relationship with this person today. If we want grace from God, we must humble ourselves before Him. He fills the hungry with good things (forgiveness, mercy, righteousness) and the proud he sends away. This is the hope of Christ.

Reflection:
• Are there areas of your life where have been proud?
• How can you humble yourself before God?
• Reflect on the hope we have if we walk in humility.

Prayer:
You lift up the lowly and fill the hungry with good things. Teach us to walk humbly before You. We praise you and worship you today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
