Behold The Savior - Day 16

Welcome to Day 16 of Advent. Thank you for going on the journey with us. 🕊️🕯️🌊

Today’s Devotional: “Peace, Be Still”

Tuesday, December 16

“And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘Peace! Be still!’ And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” Mark 4:39

The disciples were not imagining the danger. The storm was real. The wind was blowing and the waves were beginning to flood the boat. The seasoned fishermen feared for their lives. In the middle of this storm, Jesus slept on a cushion in the bottom of the boat.

When Jesus got up, He did not panic or rush. He simply commanded: “Peace! Be still!” At His Word, the wind and the waves obeyed Him. The Creation obeyed the Creator. After calming the sea, Jesus turned to His disciples and asked, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” With Jesus by our side, we have no reason to fear. We can have faith in Who He is.

John 14:27 says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” The peace Jesus offers is not flimsy or fragile. It is not ignorant or dismissive of the trials in our life. When the storms come, our life will be built on the solid Rock.

Advent reminds us that the baby born in Bethlehem is the same Lord who commands the wind and waves. He entered a storm-filled world to bring us peace. He doesn’t remove every storm, but He does reign over them. Whatever storm you are facing today, Jesus still speaks with authority. “Peace. Be still.”

Reflection:

• Are there any storms in your life right now?

• What does it look like to trust Jesus in the middle of a storm?

• How does Jesus’ promise in John 14:27 shape your understanding of peace?

Prayer:

Help me to know that You are with me and that nothing is outside Your control. Let Your peace guard my heart and mind today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
