Today’s Devotional: Joy To The World
Saturday, December 20
“And the angel said to them, ‘Behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.’” Luke 2:10
In Japan, winter nights are illuminated by bright city lights and seasonal displays. Streets glow with color, and darkness is pushed back by countless points of light. Yet even the brightest lights fade when morning comes. They have not experienced the Good News.
I’ve lived in lands of darkness and sometimes you can feel it. Good News is the water that all souls thirst for. Up to this point in human history, there was nothing but bad news. The world ached in quiet anticipation for the one who would begin to make things right again.
Christmas means “joy to the world” because we are no longer left in the dark. God has made Himself known through His Son. As Gentiles we were once on the outside. Now there are no insiders and ALL PEOPLE have access to the Good News. Jesus did not come for one nation or culture. He came for sinners from every people – including your family. We have joy in knowing we are not outsiders to God’s plan. We are welcomed into it.
The same Savior announced in the hills of Bethlehem is proclaimed in every language where the gospel is preached. The joy of Christ reaches into large nations, small nations, rich homes, poor homes, old and young, lonely hearts and joyful hearts. This Christmas, rejoice that the joy of Christ has crossed oceans and reached you. 🌟 🌌 ❄️
⸻
Reflection:
• How can you celebrate joy that includes the nations?
• How does knowing Christ came for all people strengthen your faith?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You that the joy announced at Christmas reaches every people, including us. Help us rejoice in belonging to Your kingdom and long for others to know the same joy. In Jesus’ name, amen.
