Behold The Savior – Day 3

Today’s Devotional: The Word Brings Light

Wednesday, December 3

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

‭‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭1‬-‭5‬

This weekend, we’ve seen entire neighborhoods transformed by Christmas lights. There are trees wrapped with lights, tunnels of lights, even rivers of lights! But no light display compares to what happened on the first Christmas night. The true Light entered the world.

John tells us that before Jesus took His first breath in Bethlehem, He already existed “in the beginning.” The Child in the manger is the Creator of the universe. He spoke light itself into existence. He is able to bring light to every dark corner of our world.

A lot of people say that when you land in Japan you can feel the darkness. It’s a country where less than half of 1% are Christian. There are temples and shrines tucked into every little neighborhood and back alley. Like in Japan, darkness is always trying to take over. It tried in Bethlehem under Herod. It tried in the wilderness with Satan’s temptations. It tried as Jesus hung on the cross. It continues to try in our day and age. John 1:5 says, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” There is nothing that can overcome the Light. As you look at Christmas lights this year, remember that the true Light still shines.

Reflection:

• What area of your life does the light need to shine in?

• How can you display the true light of Jesus this Christmas?

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, fill my heart with your light. Forgive me of my sins and draw me close to you. Help me reflect Your light to others this Christmas. In Your name, amen.
