Todayโ€™s Devotional: The Holy One

Thursday, December 4

โ€œHoly, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!โ€ Isaiah 6:3

As a family, weโ€™ve already been reading Christmas books and watching classic Christmas movies (Elf, The Santa Claus, Polar Express). Our days are filled with Christmas crafts, cookies and calendars. Everywhere we go, there is beautiful Christmas music playing. We canโ€™t help but see Christ during this season. What a great time to behold our Savior.

I just got back from Japan and they celebrate Christmas almost as much as we do. They put up Christmas decorations and decorate Christmas trees. They eat special holiday treats and listen to holiday music (even if they are in English). On Christmas Day, they eat Kentucky Fried Chicken and have Christmas cake. Everyone has their own traditions I guess! But Japan is a country where there are almost no Christians, so how is this possible? Because the earth is full of His glory.

Japan is not a Christian nation. They are only seeing a glimpse of His glory. The Bible says that they are at enmity with God. Everyone must submit to Jesus personally and leave their crowns at His feet. We must behold the Holy Savior.

Isaiah gives us a glimpse of the Heavenly chorus crying, โ€œHoly, holy, holy!โ€ When beholding the Savior, this is the only possible response. Even demons exclaim in Mark 1:24, โ€œI know who You areโ€”the Holy One of God!โ€ The earth trembles and nations shake. There is no hiding from the glory of God. One day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ Is Lord.

John 12:41 says, โ€œIsaiah said these things because he saw His glory and spoke of Him.โ€ Because the Word became flesh, we have seen His glory and worship Him today! The whole world will one day see His glory! So decorate trees, watch Christmas movies, go to Christmas parties, eat Christmas food and listen to Christmas music. Talk about His glory wherever you go. Celebrate Christmas and let the glory of God shine through.

Reflection:

โ€ข What is our response to the Holy One?

โ€ข How can I display His glory during this season!

Prayer:

You are the perfect, holy God. Thank you for coming near to us on the first Christmas night. Cleanse my heart and make me more like you. In Jesusโ€™ name, amen.
