Behold The Savior - Day 5
Day 5 of Advent. Have you experienced the sunrise of Christ? 🌄
⸻
Today’s Devotional: Zechariah’s Song
Friday, December 5
“Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
because he has visited and redeemed his people
… the sunrise shall visit us from on high
to give light to those who sit in darkness
and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
Luke 1:67–79
Zechariah had waited in silence for 9 months. When he was finally able to speak, praise was the first thing that came out of his mouth. His song looks backwards to God’s faithfulness and forward to the coming Redeemer. Even in the centuries of silence, God was working to fulfill His promises.
In this prophecy, Zechariah calls Jesus “the sunrise from on high.” It’s one of the most beautiful descriptions of Christ in all of Scripture. His coming is not a gentle flicker but a breaking dawn, pushing back the darkness. He gives knowledge of salvation, forgiveness of sin and leads us in the way of peace. It’s a new day.
Advent reminds us that Christ’s first coming guarantees His second. The same God who kept every promise in Bethlehem will keep every promise still to come. Today, we can live in the light of the “sunrise from on high.”

• What does the “sunrise of Christ” mean for you personally?
⸻
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for visiting and redeeming your people. Help me to trust in Your promises even when they seem far off. In Jesus’ name, amen.
